What are you working on right now?
I am making final revisions on a collection of essays and prose poems called Archaic Design to be published by Black Widow Press, fall 2007.

Did you publish a book this year? If so, what was it?
I have published two books this year: my translation of The Complete Poetry of Cesar Vallejo, University of California Press, and a new collection of my poetry, An Alchemist with One Eye on Fire, by Black Widow Press, both appeared this fall.

What's the best book you read this year?
Sue Prideaux's biography of Edvard Munch.

Who was the best new writer you read this year?
Heller Levinson's first collection of poetry, ToxiCity, published by Howling Dog Press.

What was the best work in translation you read this year?
Monica de la Torre's translation of the poetry of Gerardo Deniz, Poemas / Poems, published by Lost Roads Press.

What is your favorite literary blog?
Ron Silliman's and Pierre Joris's blogs

What was the best literary event you attended this year? And why?
Hearing Cecilia Vicuna read at The Poetry Project.

What was the most important literary news this year?
That Grace Schulman has left The Nation as Poetry Editor.

For how long have you been a Member of PEN?
My first year.

Did you post listings on PEN's Membership pages (for Member events, publications, and news) this year?
Yes

What literary topics would you would like to see discussed by PEN Members in an online forum?
Why politically liberal magazines like The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, and The Nation, all publish and review conventional poetry.

Any other news?
I have enjoyed very much recent collections of poetry by Robert Kelly, Paul Hoover, Bobby Byrd, and Charles Bernstein.
