Novelist and poet Alain Mabanckou received the 2006 Renaudot Prize for his contemporary fable Memoirs of a Porcupine, and his recent novel, African Psycho, follows a would-be serial killer’s twisted but compelling search for self-regard. Dany Laferrière won Canada’s most prestigious literary award, the Governor General’s Prize, and his short stories inspired the much-praised recent film Heading South. Join them for a conversation with Anderson Tepper of Vanity Fair about subverting stereotypes, playing with language, and provoking controversy.
