PEN Personal Web Pages & Blogs: Getting Started
Thanks for your interest in creating a Personal Web Page and Blog. With an easy-to-use publishing program, creating a Personal Web Page is as straight-forward as filling out an online form. Just visit www.pen.org/blogs, sign in using your last name and PEN ID, and follow the instructions along the way. If you have additional questions, consult the following guidelines.

HOW TO BEGIN

Visit www.pen.org/blogs, and sign in using your last name and PEN ID. After you log in, you will land directly on an “Edit My Profile” page. At this point, you can just start filling in the blanks, following the instructions at each step. Remember to save your work often as the system will automatically log you out after 20 minutes.

Feel free to edit or remove any contact information that automatically appears after your initial log-in. This information was pulled from our online database, but deleting this information on your page will not affect your records with PEN American Center.

VIEWING YOUR PROFILE

You can view your progress at any time by clicking on the orange “View Profile” icon in the upper right corner of the screen. If you would like other PEN Members and the public to be able to view your Personal Web Page, be sure to indicate this in the “Display my profile to the public” check box at the very top of the “Edit Profile” form.

You can also search for your page in the complete PEN Personal Web Pages directory, which you can find listed in blue navigation menu on the left of the screen. You can search all Personal Web Pages alphabetically by last name. Remember: your page will only appear in this listing if you have checked the “Display by profile to the public” box at the top of your Edit Profile form.

ADDING A PHOTO

To add a photo, visit the “Upload Image” field. Use the “Browse” tab to find your photo on your computer's hard drive, and double-click the file you want. Once the field contains your image's location, click save. Your image should appear on your profile immediately. If there's a problem, please consult the "Uploading an Image" section of the FAQ.

SELLING WORK ONLINE

To sell your books online, enter the 10-digit ISBN numbers of up to three of your titles titles, minus any dashes or spaces. This code will place an image of your book cover in the left column of your page, with a link to purchase your book online. If your book does not show up, search for your book on Amazon.com and try again using their ISBN number.

LINKING TO MY WEB SITE, BLOG, AND ONLINE WORK

To add links to your own web site, blog, or online work, fill out the fields in the “My Online Work/My Links” section of the Edit Profile form. Enter each title and link item as you would like it to appear on your page, followed by the actual page address. These links will appear in a blue box on the right of your profile page, without displaying the actual URL.
