His Excellency Ayatollah Sayed ‘Ali Khamenei Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic The Office of the Supreme Leader Shoahada Street, Qom, Islamic Republic of Iran Email: info@leader.ir or istiftaa@wilayah.org
Your Excellency,
I am writing to express my concern over the one-year sentence handed down to writer Yaghoub Yadali for his fictional writings. I understand that he was arrested on March 15, 2007 and tried at a court in Yasuj on August 23, 2007. He was convicted and sentenced in September 2007 for “insulting in order to agitate the general public.” Mr. Yadali has been banned from publishing, and his books have been withdrawn from the Iranian market. I believe the charges against Yaghoub Yadali to be in violation of Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is a signatory, and therefore call for his immediate and unconditional release. In addition, I urge you to lift the ban on his writings, and restore the fundamental right of freedom of expression in Iran. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name and Signature]
