Chen Shuqing
Chen ShuqingDissident writer and leading member of the Zhejiang Branch of the banned China Democracy Party (CDP), arrested September 14, 2006, and charged with “inciting subversion of state power.” Chen’s case has twice been handed back to the police for lack of evidence, but on August 14, 2007, he was sentenced to four years in prison and one year’s deprivation of political rights. His appeal was rejected without trial by the Zhejiang High People's Court on October 29, 2007. Chen was released from Qiaosi Prison in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on September 13, 2010, upon completion of his sentence.
