Dissident activist and writer arrested on November 4, 2002, and subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison and two years’ deprivation of political rights for “inciting subversion.” He Depu’s trial lasted a mere two hours before he was convicted on charges that stemmed from his collaboration with the banned China Democracy Party (CDP) and his Internet essays. He was released from Beijing No. 2 Prison on January 24, 2011, and was beaten by authorities before being returned to his home. |
