| Internet writer and editor, arrested July 9, 2002 in his home in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region while in the process of posting articles on the Internet predicting the collapse of China’s economy and criticizing leaders. Tao was found guilty of “inciting subversion of state power” and sentenced to seven years in prison and three years’ deprivation of political rights. He was held at Changji Prison in Changji City, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region until his July 8, 2009 release. |
