The Banff International Literary Translation Centre (BILTC) hosts a special discussion with author-translator duo Michel Tremblay and Linda Gaboriau. As Canada’s most prominent playwright, Michel Tremblay has been translated into some 35 languages and has translated and adapted a number of plays himself. Linda Gaboriau, the founding director of BILTC, has been translating Michel Tremblay’s works for the past 10 years. Michael F. Moore, chair of the PEN Translation Committee and a past participant at BILTC, will lead the discussion on the challenges of translating drama and the special relationship between author and translator.

The Banff International Literary Translation Centre (BILTC) is a program of The Banff Centre, a globally respected arts and educational institution in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2008. In cooperation with translator and writer associations and universities from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, The Banff Centre founded BILTC in 2001 as the only literary translation center in North America. The center is open to literary translators from Canada, the United States, and Mexico translating from any language, and to international translators working on literature from the Americas.
