In Treatment: A Literary Conversation
In Treatment: A Literary Conversation

Thursday, May 1 | The Mercantile Library | NYC

With Arnon Grunberg & Yael Hedaya

Discussed: the pleasures of being in therapy; honesty and desire; expecting too much from love; self-consciousness and watching your own loneliness; the necessity of the mini-van; formalizing pain into art; television as the "new literature"

Entire event (1:01:48)

Nobel Prize–winning author J. M. Coetzee says that “the wit and sardonic intelligence that shine through Arnon Grunberg’s prose make it a continual pleasure to read.” The Economist praises Grunberg’s “absurdist humor, grotesque situations, and snappy rejoinders reminiscent of Saul Bellow or, rather, Woody Allen.” The Los Angeles Times Book Review called Yael Hedaya an “extraordinary” writer of “remarkable emotional power.” She is also responsible for the smash-hit TV series In Treatment. Come discover what the buzz is all about as these two young writers discuss the writer’s life, being translated, and being funny.
