Brilliant first paragraphs are as rare in biography as they are in fiction. However, on occasion, a biographer’s masterstroke appears on the very first page. An Eloquent Beginning, the inaugural public program of the Leon Levy Center for Biography, celebrates strong beginnings and the genre of biography with a group of distinguished biographers coming together to read their favorite opening of a biography.
