Mehbube Ablesh
Mehbube AbleshUighur writer, poet, and employee at the Xinjiang People’s Radio Station, a government-run station based in Urumqi, fired from her post and detained in August 2008. She is reportedly being held for posting articles critical of the Chinese government and the provincial leadership in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. Reports released in October 2010 revealed that Ablesh is serving a three-year sentence for “splittism” at the Xinjiang Women's Prison (Xinjiang Number 2 Prison) in Urumqi.
