Please send the following letter to President Barack Obama, or write your own, urging him to end torture and other due process violations and press for a public investigation into past abuses.

President Barack Obama

Dear President Obama,
I applaud your commitment to ending torture and other due process violations carried out in the name of antiterrorism and national security. I am writing to encourage you to act on those commitments as soon as you are sworn in as president, and also to foster a process aimed at bringing the full truth of these human rights abuses to light.
As president, you will have the authority to order an end to many of these abusive practices and the influence to work with Congress to end the rest. I urge you to do so quickly and uncompromisingly as an essential step toward restoring America’s moral standing in the world.
To ensure that we do not go down this troubling road again, however, it is necessary that the American people have an accurate record of the abuses that have occurred and an understanding of how those abuses were tolerated or encouraged. I therefore urge you not only to bring the abuses to an immediate end, but to facilitate the kind of nonpartisan investigation and national discussion that democratic governance demands.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name and Signature]
