Nationwide: Reading: Nahid Rachlin

PEN member Nahid Rachlin's short story Strangers in the House will be aired on NPRs (Selected Shorts, Symphony Space) around the country, starting October 14th. Actress Freda Foh Shen will read. Please check your local programming for exact dates.

On WNYC, the program will air on Sunday, October 17th on WNYC AM 820 at 1 pm, and on Saturday, October 23rd on WNYC FM 93.9 at 10pm.

Nahid Rachlin, a PEN member, was born in Iran, came to the United States to attend college and stayed. Among her publications are a memoir, Persian Girls (Penguin), four novels, Jumping Over Fire (City Lights), Foreigner (W.W. Norton), Married to a Stranger (E.P.Dutton), The Heart's Desire (City Lights),and a collection of short stories, Veils (City Lights). Her work has been published in Portuguese, Dutch, Farsi, Arabic. All her published books are currently in print in paperback editions and are available at chain stores as well as independent ones. They are also widely used in college courses.

Her individual short stories have appeared in more than fifty magazines and have been reprinted in several anthologies. She has also written reviews for the New York Times, Washington Post, and Newsday.

While a student she held a Doubleday-Columbia fellowship and a Wallace Stegner Fellowship (Stanford). The grants and awards she has received include the Bennet Cerf Award, PEN Syndicated Fiction Project Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. Currently she teaches at the New School University and the Unterberg Poetry Center at the 92nd Street Y. She has taught at Yale University and Barnard College. She is an associate fellow at Yale.
