Wei Zhenling
Freelance reporter for the Zhejiang Qingnian Bao (Zhejiang Youth Newspaper) and activist, arrested July 25, 2008 on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power” for his critical online reports and activism. Although there was insufficient evidence to support the charges, Wei was sentenced to one year and nine months of “reeducation through labor” on August 26, 2008, for allegedly “gambling and frequenting prostitutes” several years ago. He is currently being held at the Yuhang Detention Center for Reeducation Through Labor, Yuhang County, Zhejiang Province.
