The Young Adult Library Services Assocation (YALSA) awarded Heiligman the first YALSA award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults for Charles and Emma: The Darwin's Leap of Faith. Stone's Almost Astronauts was a finalist for the award. Charles and Emma was also named a Michael L. Printz Honor Book, as was Rapp's Punkzilla.
