Lyon Trilogy
Le Revenant (Paris: Hachette), Sur la Terre Comme Au Ciel (Paris: Hachette), and L'Enfer (Paris: P.O.L.), all originally published during the early 1980s.

Belletto, a classically trained musician and composer as well as poet and novelist, very successfully straddles the policier and literary novel genres, playing with myth and creating characters of great complexity who yet attract our sympathy with their droll sense of humor and angled view of their world. There's a little Dostoevsky in him, a bit of Kafka and something of Raymond Chandler, as well. But he is a unique voice, and almost always a bestseller in France. Two of his novels have already been translated into English.

Recommended by J. P. Smith.
