Selected Works
Nomade j'Etais: Les Années Africaines d'Isabelle Eberhardt and Un Désir d'Orient: La Jeunesse d'Isabelle Eberhardt: This two-volume set is the definitive biography of Isabelle Eberhardt, written by Edmonde Charles-Roux, novelist and member of the Académie Goncourt. Published in 1995, it has not yet been translated. It is unequalled for the depth of research and narrative interest she brings to the task of making sense of Eberhardt's erratic life. Charles-Roux was the first (and only) biographer to make use of archives in Russia, Switzerland, Algeria, and France. She also corrects a number of factual errors and misconceptions about Eberhardt's life—especially her early years.
