Summa technologiae
This essay (quite a large volume) was written in the late 1960s and reflects, with wit and subtlety, on some moral-ethical and philosophical consequences of future technology. Lem was prescient: in this work he predicts virtual reality technology 30 years before it came about. His Summa makes one realize how superficial most futurologists are.

Recommended by Michael Kandel.
