Write to Congress in support of federal shield laws
Write to Congress in support of federal shield laws

Dear Senator/Representative __________,

As a [writer/journalist/translator/editor/reader] and as a supporter of PEN, the international organization that for 84 years has defended the freedom of writers around the world, I am deeply troubled that the United States may soon join the company of nations in which journalists are in prison simply for carrying out their work. Now is the time for Congress to enact a federal shield law, which would limit the circumstances under which journalists and news organizations may be forced to reveal confidential sources.

I strongly urge you to join me in supporting the Free Flow of Information Act of 2005, and to work to ensure that this bill becomes law this year.

Sincerely,

[Your name and address]
