This week in the PEN Poetry Series, PEN America features two poems by Eileen Myles.

Today

Today’s so quick
did I pick
up the shit
or didn’t
I. Worse
I’m facing
a tree
trunk
I say
class
how do we
describe
it: sparkles
shreds
of gleaming
confetti
red
blue
then a broken
cookie
and a rock
she said
(name)

She asked
me if
I wanted
to make
films

someone
tied
a ribbon
it’s pink
and fluttering
on the limb
of aforesaid
tree

I said
no
it’s too
slow

To My Flowers

Why
did you just
come and
die.
